George Clooney as Danny Ocean - This part was played by Frank Sinatra in the original as the leader of the group of war vets. The update will have the group as Gulf War veterans who gather to carry out the Vegas heist/s. Danny is released from prison and sets about putting together his heist gang, complicated slightly by the fact that his ex-wife (played by Julia Roberts) is now seeing the owner of the target casino's.

Brad Pitt as Rusty Ryan - His second Vegas-set movie within a year (after The Mexican which also stars Julia Roberts). Brad recently said the following in an interview about the Ocean's 11 production..."This thing is cool. Soderbergh and Clooney asked the question, why aren't there any films like The Great Escape, where all these actors, like Ernest Borgnine, Chucky Bronson, and all these people showed up and had agood time. That's what they've attempted to do with this one. That's what they've done with this one. Summoned a great cast. It's much more difficult at this time to work out people's schedules and the monetary deals. Right now, it's a great cast. It's cool. I start tomorrow." Credit is due to Lynne Berry for finding this info

Julia Roberts as Danny's ex-wife Beatrice/Tess Ocean (who is now apparently seeing a casino owner, see Andy Garcia below) - This was the part played by Angie Dickinson in the original. Julia is apparently acting this role for $20 after she asked Clooney how much she would get. He said "twenty" (which is what she got in millions for Erin Brockovich ) which she agreed to immediately. Her character is described in the synopsis for the tie-in novel as "shady". Julia recently made the follow comments on the movie which indicate that her role is relatively small scale anyway..."this isn't a remake but more a massive retelling. The script is so smart, so gripping. When I first read it, it was the old actor's joke that when you read a script it's bullshit, bullshit my line, bullshit, bullshit my line, etc. I don't necessarily subscribe to that, it's more, lines, lines, bullshit stage direction, line, line. But in Ocean's 11, I probably only have 37 lines in the whole script, and found it so gripping; it's really compelling." She also stated that she only has scenes "with Andy Garcia, George Clooney and Brad Pitt" and that "there's no moral centre to Ocean's 11, it's about burglars." Julia confirmed (amongst other things) during her Oscar acceptance speech that she was to start filming on Tuesday the 27th of March

Matt Damon as Linus Caldwell - He is an expert pickpocket recruited by Danny Ocean in Chicago, but is the rookie in the gang

Don Cheadle as Basher Tarr - Plays an expert in munitions. Another "Out Of Sight" star who incidentally played Sammy Davis Jr. in a TV movie biopic about The Rat Pack. Also stars in Soderbergh's "Traffic" as a DEA agent. He is playing an uncredited role in this film

Andy Garcia as Terry Benedict - Is the Bellagio casino owner in a relationship with Julia Roberts' character. This sets the scene for some tension between him and Clooney's character. Andy was in Vegas on the 12th of February to present an award at the ESPN awards at the MGM Grand, although this was a bit early to tie in with shooting of this movie

Elliott Gould plays the financier for the heist/s, Reuben Tishkoff. Elliott has had appearances in the TV show "Friends" and was star of a number of great movies in the past including Capricorn One

Carl Reiner replaced Alan Arkin (as the character Saul Bloom) who pulled out of the production at a late stage. Carl recently stated in an interview that he is playing "a member of the scam team"

Bernie Mac the comedian who appeared in The Original Kings of Comedy , is playing Frank the Baccarat dealer who is recruited by Clooney in the Atlantic City casino scenes and is referred to as the "inside man"

Other appearances are being made by Scott Caan and Casey Affleck as brothers in the gang.

Two actors who appeared in Soderbergh's Traffic reportedly have cameo roles: Benjamin Bratt (Julia Roberts' now ex-fiance), and Erika Christensen (who played Michael Douglas's daughter in that film)

In a nod to the original 1960 movie, two of it's stars, Henry Silva and Angie Dickinson, are making brief appearances

Las Vegas impressionist/entertainer Danny Gans and real-life casino owner/developer Steve Wynn were also being lined up for cameo appearances. Gans reportedly appeared in the boxing match scenes

One of the big draws for this movie (and a reason a lot of people came to this site after I revealed this info via Aint-It-Cool-News in December) was that Mike Tyson and Lennox Lewis were being lined up for a "pretend" fight for a central plot device in this movie. It has turned out that this is a lot more realistic than first thought (at least with Lewis) as a few people at the time dismissed it totally. Tyson himself is out the frame as the New York Daily News reports the following..."Mike Tyson and Lennox Lewis may someday meet in the ring but director Steven Soderbergh says it won't be on the set of his movie "Ocean's Eleven." The Oscar-nominated filmmaker had at one time hoped to bring the bitter foes together for a make-believe bout in his remake of the 1960 Rat Pack caper comedy. Instead, he's pairing Lewis with World Boxing Organization heavyweight champ Vladimir Klitschko. Soderbergh, who brilliantly captured America's drug war in "Traffic," decided even a pretend Tyson-Lewis fight was too much nitroglycerin to juggle. "My sense was that it would not be a tension-free set," Soderbergh tells us, "and I believe in a tension-free set." The heavyweights have been dissing each other savagely while waiting for HBO (where Lewis has his broadcast deal) and Showtime (where Tyson has his) to come to terms. Tyson, who last year played himself in "Black and White," was said to be keen to join the "Ocean's Eleven" cast, which includes George Clooney, Brad Pitt, Julia Roberts, Matt Damon and Bill Murray. But Soderbergh was apparently more interested in Lewis. "He was someone I was sort of fixated on," said the director. As for Klitschko, "He's one of the big contenders, and it's a fight people do want to see." The Ukrainian-born Klitschko said last May he would "be honored to fight him and win." The scene, to be shot at Vegas' MGM Grand hotel at the end of this month, calls for about 9,000 extras. Will Lewis and Klitschko really go at it? "No," says Soderbergh, "it's a mock fight. Well, I hope they won't. The sense from the Lewis camp and the Klitschko camp is that these guys are cool." All the same, Clooney, who is reprising Frank Sinatra's role as Danny Ocean, allows: "They might really hit each other. Maybe we should sell tickets." (big shout out to Claire Hinchcliffe for the heads-up on this info)

The soundtrack is by David Holmes (amongst other original tracks) who contributed a great score to Out Of Sight

Bruce Willis was initially going to be in the all-star cast

Other rumoured names in the past have included Michael Douglas and Ewan MacGregor as well as the Coen brothers. Mark Wahlberg was one of the cast but had to jump ship as filming was going to conflict with his starring role in Tim Burton's "Planet Of The Apes" remake.

Don Rickles - Appeared as Robert DeNiro's casino manager Billy Sherbert in Casino . A great stand-up comedian. He regularly appeared at The Desert Inn in Las Vegas (until it was closed in August) which coincidentally was one of the locations robbed in the original movie. Haven't heard much about his appearance in this movie recently so almost definately not in it.

Bill Murray - Was rumoured to be playing Nick the lounge singer (echoing Dean Martin's role in the original but unlikely to be singing "Ain't That A Kick In The Head" this time, ironically a track used on the Out Of Sight soundtrack). Very little has been said about his rumoured appearance lately, so I can't say with 100% certainty that he is in it

UPDATE ON 7th AUGUST FROM LAS VEGAS SUN...
"Sources around town are saying "Ocean's 11" producer Jerry Weintraub has been subtly telling his Vegas pals that their faces in the movie's big fight scene didn't make it to the final edit. Siegfried & Roy, Danny Gans, Steve Lawrence & Eydie Gorme, Bob Stupak, County Commissioner Dario Herrera, Angie Dickinson, Wayne Newton and, of course, the mayor, were all at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in April when the staged Lennox Lewis-Wladimir Klitschko bout took place. More than 2,000 local extras were also in attendance, as were "Ocean's 11" co-stars Julia Roberts and Andy Garcia.
Steven Soderbergh, the Academy Award-winning director who shot the scene, has also been hinting to friends that the heavyweight fight isn't going to be the celeb-packed portion he originally intended, according to a source who heard the news."
